Hi My son 14 was diagnosed with mrsa today. He had what we thought was a spider bite on the top of his foot on Thursday. (It was a large red bump) A day later it had a black head on it and it grew painful and more swollen. On Sunday, it had pus draining out of the top of it. I called his pedi and took him to the hospital because we were on vacation. They put a wick in and tested it. Gave us a prescription for percs for the pain and Kefflex. The told me they would call me only if it was mrsa. They haven't called yet. Yesterday, I took him to his pedi and they marked it with a magic marker to see if it would spread. His pedi also tested it and put him on Bactrum and told us to keep with the Kefflex. Today his doctor told me that his lab guy says it looks like mrsa even though it hasn't been 48 hrs. I guess the staph was growing larger or something. Today the pain was gone and the swelling was down. He had some colleagues take a look at it. I have noticed that he had two "holes" ... read more

My story starts( I think, or could have been sooner) around the middle of May, when I developed cellulitus after a medical procedure I had done the end of April 2008. I thought I had gotten rid of it with antibiotics, but a few weeks later I first developed a boil on my groin that ended up draining on its own after a few days, Next one happened about two weeks later on my right leg just above my knee. That was extremely painful and was quite a bit larger than a quarter, It also really started to hurt in my joint and I had a hard time walking on that leg, but sure enough it healed on it's own as well. About two weeks after that I had developed one on my hip and this was extremely painful and one small and less painful one on the lower lid of my eye.I was starting to feel quite sick and I started to throw up as well. I was admitted into the hospital that day, had a culture taken and was diagnosed as being MRSA positive. I was started on 3 different types of IV antibiotics, finally af... read more

Hi everyone- I've lurked here for a few months and just posted for the first time today. I'm mad and I wanted to rant and, hopefully, some of you will feel the same way I do!
The more I research about MRSA, the more infuriated I become. The medical community in the US seems to be keeping this problem a secret to prevent panic and outrage. Panic because this thing is an epidemic- almost everyone I know has recently experienced a "spider bite." The medical community would like for us to believe there are roving gangs of brown recluse spiders roaming our houses looking for their next victim. Come on, they are called brown RECLUSES for a reason! Outrage because this is a problem that the medical community caused!! Shoddy hygeine practices, over prescribing antibiotics, not informing the public.
Why are doctors and coroners not telling the truth on death certificates? Organ failure? Bone infection? It's MRSA!!!
I'm sorry, but it makes me so upset because the public is ... read more

I just have a quick question about MRSA. My family has had 2 episodes with MRSA- one in May 07 when my daughter was hospitalized with cellulitis- received IV vanco, and one with me about a month ago. Mine started as folliculitis on my upper thigh and turned into cellulitis. I took Doxycycline for 10 days and the infection seemed to clear up. But, since then, my entire leg that was affected aches sometimes. Not all the time and the pain is mild, but enough to cause me concern. Could I have a bone infection or other complication?

I just received the new DVD from Adam Abraham that resulted from his trip to Mexico to interview Jim Humble, the developer of MMS.
It is an excellent presentation and it will move MMS forward into the minds and hands of people who really need it, who have serious infection.
You can read further about MMS at www.HealthSalon.org You will find interesting links on the topic.
MMS is sodium chlorite. When activated by an acid solution like lemon juice, lime juice or citric acid it turns to chlorine dioxide. This is the active ingredient that kills pathogens.
In the DVD a research scientist and professor Antonio Romo Paz from the University of Sonora is interviewed. Once he started to realize the power of MMS to cure infections he took it to a local prison and tested it on a man who had the incurable variety of TB. MMS cured his infection. The TB patient took 8 drops a day for one month then tested negative for TB.
Professor Paz also gave it to someone with a severe case... read more

My 18 month daughter had what we thought was an insect bite on her bottom. She has now been in the hospital for 4 days and hopefully gets out tomorrow. She had surgery and the doctor cleaned it out and has had her on IV antibiotics since. What can I expect now? I really didn't know much about MRSA until I started reading about it here.

I am a 54 year old female and have had MRSA for the last 4 months, thought to a caused by a bite from a Brown Recluse spider. 3 to 4 days after I finish an antibiotic, I start showing signs of MRSA again. I have had boils, sinus, throat/tonsil problems and now seem to be affected in my bones and joints. Recently, all joints of my arms, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles are very painful. It almost feels as though my entire arm and leg BONES hurt as well. (I have had MILD Osteoarthritis for about 15 years in my knees and ankles but nothing like this!) Does anyone know if MRSA can affect bones and/or joints? My doc is sending me to an infectious disease doctor but I have not had the appointment yet. Thanks for any information you can share with me! God Bless you all! Carole

I had an operation in may 2006 and was mrsa free, i was due to have another op 5th april 2007 and it has been cancelled because i am a carrier of mrsa becasuse the swabs from my nose come back positive. I have asked doctors, nurses you name it how i am a carrier now and i was not 11 months ago. No one seems to be able to tell me. My doctor said you cant catch it, so how did i get to be a carrier? She also said that i will never get rid of it, but a nurse told me it is easy to get rid of with washes etc I am worried that when i do go for my op i am going to get sick. Also i worry about passing it on to my 2 year old son and partner. Can anyone give me some advice?

I've been dealing with my infection since 2004. When I first started getting the lesions on my face, my doc. thought I had herpes simplex and treated me with valtrex and I applied abreva which you can imagine HURT LIKE HELL...considering it isn't herpes.
Anyways, it took about 2 years of constant pain and suffering before I went to a doc who did a culture and told me this, "You have a non-responsive staff infection." No mention of MRSA or that I would be living with this infection forever (or untill God willing, we find a cure).
I finnaly went to an Infectious Disease doc who told me what I had and what antibiotics we could use to treat it. Since 2004 i've been on over 20 rounds, if not more of differant antibiotics, and sometimes, most times...I feel as if they make my infection worse.
I religiously wash my hads with antimicrobil handwash...and I use muproxin in my nose, rifampin, and bactrim.
I usually get the sores on my face..near my mouth and nose...and its so emb... read more

Hello, I am new to this site and I went searching for some answers the day my husband got the test results that said his mrsa was back. he had back surgery in Jan. 07. Surgery went fine, but after 1 week, he became deathly ill, running high fever and severe headaches. We rushed him to the ER where he had the surgery and after some testing found that he had a spinal fluid leak that was caused by a staph infection. When he left the hosp he was diagnosed with mrsa and was put on 6 weeks of IV vanco therapy. After 3 weeks of being off the IV, his infection recurred. He is now on another round of IV vanco. They did several test to try and find where the infection was and found it to be in a pocket of fluid in his back near the surgery site. The dr. does not want to put him through surgery again, but I am wondering, what will it take to get rid of this? I am desperate for some support and comments. He has been off work with no pay for 3 months now. We also have a 2 year old and I am won... read more

My name is Joseph and I want share my experience and give some useful advice to people who suffers from MRSA or the so called superbug. After more than eight month of fighting the bacteria, having seen my doctor a surgeon , and two infectious disease specialists and searched the web everything about MRSA this is what I found out. If your doctor gave you antibiotics to take for your sore or boil it is vrey important to have a culture test done in the lab. The culture test is when your doctor take a small sample from your wound and send it to the lab for testing. The purpose of the culture test is not just find out what kind of bacteria causing your sore or boil but also to test the sample from your wound against different antibiotics to find out to wich antibiotics the bacteria is resistent to and to wich antibiotics the bacteria is sensiteive to. Without the cultule test there is no way for the doctor who treat you to find out the right medicine and more likely he or she give you th... read more

Hello: I kept wondering why the sores in my armpits did not disappear like the ones on my face...the reason is they are NOT mrsa, but are caused by MRSA. You can read about this on the WHO, World Health Org. website The condition in my armpits is actually lymphadenitis, infection of the lymph glands in my armpits, CAUSED BY THE MRSA CONDITION in my body. I knew it was somehow different from my MRSA boils on my face and in my ears. I am having a problem getting rid of these particular sores. I have read that being a vegetarian helps and I am a vegetarian. But I still drink milk and sometimes eat eggs. I am trying just some hydrogen peroxide on the sore areas, no deodorant for now...At least now I know what these sores are...No, a doctor did not tell me what they are. The appearance of bad boils on my face were closely followed by the armpit lesions and boils, so I suspected there was a relation between them and the sores in my armpits. And there is a direct relationship, but t... read more

I'm really hoping someone can help me out with some advice about preventing or lessening/eliminating the scars that are left after a boils heals. I am very light complected and am getting these scars everywhere. Also, is it best to completely leave the boil alone or to try to open or squeeze it and apply some kind of ointment when it first appears.

Has this happened to other Hebiclens users? After my son took his shower with hebiclens, and this morning when I went to bleach it out, the tub turned like a brown color... Is the residue of the hebiclens reacting with the bleach? Strange..

After meeting with my doctor yesterday, I was not concerned about my leg- it had healed up real quick. Quicker, in fact than the first time I had MRSA, where my thigh got pink and an absess formed. I'm finishing my Septra regimen and the doctor says I can go about my normal activities, stay healthy, nothing special I can do to prevent it from happening again, especially because i'm fit, 22, and eat well...
BUT, this bacteria has caused two outbreaks in a series of months,
AND, my girlfriend has chronic lyme disease. I haven't seen her since I got the second MRSA, and kept my first wound covered when I was around her. I am very worried that she either already has or very soon will have the MRSA bacteria in her system.
Because she has Lyme she is immuno-suppressed, and I know that makes her very susceptible. I'm wondering what I can do. My doctor isn't worried, but I need some hard answers before I can safely be around her again. If she gets MRSA, it's not going to be a goo... read more

I was diagnosed with MRSA in September 2006. I believe it was at my place of employment which was a public transit system as a mechanic.3 of us were diagnosed within a 2 week period. Company could have cared less but that's another story. Since then I have been to 3 different doctors, my regular doc, a dermatologist, and an ID doctor. The first 2 did cultures and thru antibiotics at it. The ID doc just went on my word and put me on a pic line with clydimycin for a week. Well I beleive all the antibiotics made it worse. I used to get one every couple months. Since February of this year(08), I have gotten multiple boils at the same time CONSTANTLY. Almost unbearable at this point. I told my regular doc to give me some pain med to make it thru the worst ones. I am now totally done with western medicine except for a trauma situation. Seems they just don't know or don't get it. I've been doing research and am taking probiotics, allicin(garlic) and using tea tree oil on my boils. Hopeful... read more

I have a 33 year old son that lives with us. He is a gray ash color, has lost all of his teeth, has leisons on his body, acts irritionally. We have just found out he is in a clinical study for a mrca. I have just got on this site to try and find out if the rest of my family can be in health risk. Can a casual visit from my grandkids put them in harm? How can we get him to admit that he has a drug problem so we can help him?

I would like to comment.
Staph aureus has always been everywhere, biologically speaking… through bacterial survival / mutation (SA-MRSA) the evolution of the Staph aureus bacteria to some ‘degree of resistance’ was always thought to be… just a matter of time. We can research science data that supports discussions took place long ago.
Human contact (MRSA infected human host) error in all respects, even down to our uncontrollable shedding of cells we all leave behind, provides the Staph aureus (MRSA) bacteria - the “legs” it needs to survive. This is responsible for transmission/contraction, carrier status/infection status… and sad but true even takes place in Iraq. Mix evolution with our human influences - and you’ve got mutations.
I completely understand the nurse’s serious concerns, and her conscious decision attempting to avoid a known contraction liability. One thing about her precautions… she KNEW the lung patient was MRSA infected - the clerk who j... read more

Hi, I am a mother of a 33 yr old daughter. She recently was diagnosed with MRSA, and has several huge boils on her body at this time. She also has been addicted to Crystal Meth for at least a year. She won't go see a doctor because the Meth makes her put everything off. Everyday she says she's going, but never does. She can't get off the drug because of no money for treatment so things go on the same everyday. It's been almost a month of this and I'm at my wits end. I am so worried about her, I can hardly function in my own life. I know her immune system will never improve as long as she's doing this drug. And she knows this too, but the drug makes her not care. Does anyone have any suggestions? Everyday she seems to get another huge boil and a little more lethargic. Does anyone have the same type of problem out there, or is anyone trying to deal with the same type of situation? I would appreciate anyone to talk to about this, because she is adamant about me not letting anyone know w... read more
I personally am overjoyed for those who have become MRSA “infection” free, at the same time I’m concerned some are being misinformed about their carrier status. This information is intended for informative purposes.
Concerning Bactroban-Mupirocin/OTC Bacitracin: Same result is true for antibiotic over use resistance. [“It is important to use Bacitracin Ointment for the full course of treatment. Failure to do so {may decrease the effectiveness of this treatment and may increase the risk that the bacteria will no longer be sensitive to Bactroban-Mupirocin/Bacitracin Ointment and it will not be able to be treated by this or certain other antibacterial medicines in the future.} Bacitracin Ointment is an antibiotic. It works by stopping or preventing bacterial infections by either killing susceptible bacteria or inhibiting their growth.”] read more

Are there any connections between the two? Some of the places on my leg seems to have stayed deep and appear to be celulitus. They are going away but taking much longer.

My husband just recently finished a 10 day treatment for CA-MRSA, with the would closed completely and undetectable just 2 days after treatment started. We have to wait another 2 weeks to find out if he is still a carrier and are currently awaiting test results to see if my or my son are carriers (nasal swab). What I want to know, for those of you not actively infected or defined as carriers, how do you handle going to others houses or having people in yours? I spend much time with family and friends, mainly at their houses, and though some of my family knows and are not nearly as concerned as I am, what do you think I should do? I am definitly not going anywhere this weekend as we should get results on monday for us, but if it is discovered that we are carriers, I am not sure what to do. I can be vary careful, but a 4 year old is not so much. I can defeinitly get him to wash his hands after he goes to the bathroom and before I let him eat, but that is really it. Here at home... read more

Hello, I'm a new to this forum and seeking advice. About 2 weeks ago, my boy-friend developed an abscess in his arm and got tested for MRSA which I just found out was positive. He is currently taking the antibiotics prescribed and I understand that he will always be a carrier and he could pass it on to me. So what does it mean to me? Will I get it if I am intimate with him? I understand that close contact with a carrier, is how someone gets it, but I'm healthy, so will I get it?? What about intimacy? We have been together for 4 years and planning on getting married. What does this mean for him? He is in his late 20's and very active and healthy. Please help.
